Changes

I have been working on my things more efficiently here on the Little Farm. I have needed to replant a few things, like some cabbages and the Basil-Purple Dark Opal.

Basil - Purple Dark Opal
Moved to a 5-gallon bucket.

I had to pull a cabbage because it was starting to rot. The one cabbage was further along than the rest and had the least amount of white flies. I didn't notice it until I repotted it. It wasn't very pleasant.

The cabbage went bad. It was very slimy.
The cabbage went bad. I cut it open to see how much damage was done.

All the other cabbages were very much afflicted with white flies. I found out the hard way that the ants I let hang around the plants were the reason for the white flies. The ants used my cabbage to feed themselves by harvesting the white fly.

This is some of the cabbage I moved to a raised bed.

The Cayenne peppers are doing better. The plants were full of leaves and flowers but no peppers. I was worried that with the change of adding them to the rain gutter grow system, they would not do as well. But they have stabilized and are now producing peppers.

Kale is starting, and I am working towards getting the large tunnel done so it will have a place to go. Until then, I will have to squeeze it around the other plants. I don't want to do that because it is MORE work than I like.

Cucumbers are starting to produce. I think there are two thus far. I was shocked that they were producing so soon. The plant is only about 6ft long.

The lemon balm and peppermint are getting more prominent as well. I was worried about the peppermint because it had been in a tote of nutrients and was starting to die. I thought it was because it didn't like its roots continuously wet. That wasn't it. The problem was its roots didn't touch the nutrients. It was placed in a tote with kale, and the kale grew faster than the peppermint, so the nutrients went down faster than the peppermint could grow. The peppermint was left high and dry. I moved the peppermint to the tote with the lemon balm, and it has thrived.
