Checking on things

I haven't blogged lately because I have allowed other things to get in the way. So now I am sitting down to take the time to make this entry.

Plants

Things seem to be growing rather well as of late except for the zucchini which just fizzled out. The basil seems to really be doing well.

Basil

The greens I cut a few weeks back are starting to grow back. The caterpillars have attacked it a few times, but I have kept a better watch lately. There are some greens in this shot that just didn't survive.

The romaine is coming along. It's in the image above.

The jalapenos are doing well, though since I picked all the fruits off of them, haven't produced any more yet.

The blackberry bush is coming along nicely, and so are the avocado trees. The mango, dwarf golden plum, soursop, lime, orange, and breadfruit trees are progressing as well.

The raspberry bushes are getting larger but aren't producing much fruit. The pineapple plants I have planted in the soil are doing well. Probably won't see fruits on those until 2024. They're still relatively small.

Compost

Let's turn our attention to compost. I have three bins going; two of them should be ready in 3 months the other is only half full. We've had A LOT of rain the past two months, and it's kept the bins pretty damp.

Also, I have been doing a more localized compost for the trees. Mainly the breadfruit and soursop trees. I have dug pits in which I have placed a good amount of food scraps and buried them between the trees. So that as the trees grow they will have plenty of nutrition. This technic worked on a few lime trees at a previous location.
